About Marv

Millions of students have achieved success studying from the textbooks and supplements created by Marvin L. Bittinger and his coauthors.

Professor and author, Marv Bittinger, brings to the MathMax series 28 years of university teaching and writing experience. His enthusiasm and dedication to the improvement of developmental math teaching are quickly seen in the quality of his products.

Marv was born in Akron, Ohio. He received his BA in Mathematics from Manchester College in 1963, his MS in Mathematics is from Ohio State University (1965), and his PhD in Mathematics Education is from Purdue University (1968).

Since completing his PhD, Marv has been a Professor of Mathematics Education at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis. Being particularly dedicated to developmental mathematics, Marv has written over 130 mathematics textbooks on topics ranging from Basic Mathematics to Brief Calculus.

Marv has always been an avid sports fan - especially of bowling and baseball. It would not be unusual to find Marv perfecting his athletic skills at a bowling tournament or an adult baseball fantasy camp. You may have had the pleasure of hearing Marv speak on "Baseball and Mathematics" at a recent math convention. His writing has expanded to include a how-to book, CD-ROM, and 3-part video series entitled The Art of Hitting, coauthored with Dusty Baker, Manager of the San Francisco Giants, and Jeff Mercer.
